Frequent Questions About Geothermal Energy

Frequent Questions

Here are some of the frequently asked questions regarding Geothernal Energy, we hope we have answered yours,
if you have any other questions, please call us now on 061 381166 or contact Lynch Well Drilling here.

Q WHAT IS THE COST OF INSTALLING A GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM?
A To get an accurate comparison of the overall cost you need to consider the following points:

  • Payback, or how long it takes to recover the difference in costs between the two systems using energy savings.
  • The total operating savings from heating cooling, and domestic hot water must be combined to get an accurate picture of your current system versus a Geothermal heating system.
  • The life span of the Geothermal versus other systems.
  • The maintenance costs and reliability of your current system versus a geothermal system.
Q HOW SAFE IS GEOTHERMAL?
A Geothermal is safe as it has no open flame, flammable fuel, potentially dangerous fuel storage tanks or boilers etc.

Q CAN GEOTHERMAL ENERGY BE USED FOR BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL PURPOSES?
A Yes! Many geothermal units are being installed in houses and larger commercial sites.

Q HOW EFFICIENT IS A GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM?
A A geothermal system is more than three times as efficient as the most efficient conventional system. Because geothermal systems do not burn combustible fuel to make heat, they provide three to four units of energy for every one unit used to power the system.

Q HOW NOISY IS THE GEOTHERMAL HEAT UNIT?
A The collectors under the ground are silent and the heat unit would be of the noise level of a domestic refrigerator.

Q I WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL A GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM, BUT ACCESS TO MY HOUSE IS LIMITED?
A We have 2 Drill Rigs that are specifically built for sites with limited access, enabling us to facilitate the customer’s requirements.

Q HOW LONG WILL A GEOTHERMAL BOREHOLE LAST?
AGeothermal borehole installation can last over 100 years as the material used to make the loop is designed not to react with the ground and can last for a long time.
